Orthotics, in podiatry, refers to custom-made inserts designed to address various foot and lower limb issues. These inserts are meticulously crafted to provide additional support, cushioning, and realignment to the feet, helping to alleviate discomfort, correct biomechanical imbalances, and promote optimal foot function. They also help with posture problems.
At Tennant Podiatry, we utilise orthotics to treat a wide range of conditions, including flat feet, high arches, plantar fasciitis, bunions, heel pain, and various gait abnormalities. By analysing a patient's foot structure, gait pattern, and specific symptoms, we can recommend and design orthotics that cater to individual needs.
Orthotics can serve different purposes, such as providing arch support, redistributing pressure, controlling overpronation or supination, and promoting proper foot alignment. Whether addressing chronic conditions or supporting athletic performance, orthotics play a significant role in promoting overall foot health and well-being.
Our 3D Printed Orthotics are constructed from vegetable TPU and have emerged as a vegan and environmentally friendly solution in the field of healthcare and biomechanics. Unlike conventional orthotic materials that often involve animal-derived products, such as leather, vegan orthotics are crafted using cruelty-free and sustainable alternatives. They are printed in house which significantly reduces our carbon footprint.

Biomechanical (Orthotic) Assessment
Your feet are very much the foundations of your body, just like a building. If they are out of alignment, weaknesses and faults can occur in the rest of your body.
A biomechanical assessment usually involves a 40 to 60 minute consultation, where we can perform a detailed assessment leading to the issue of a specialist insole called an orthotic to realign your feet and body to work at it’s optimum efficiency. You will need to attend in loose fitting clothes or shorts and the assessment will check the range of motion at joints, muscle strength, position of the feet and ascertain if there is a leg length discrepancy.
We get referrals from GPs, Orthopaedic foot and ankle consultants, Podiatric surgeons and physiotherapists throughout the North West, and we are also well known by outdoor enthusiasts and running clubs.
Among the limited number of practices in the UK, we stand out for possessing cutting edge 3D scanner technology in house which holds notable advantages in manufacturing accurate prescriptions. This cutting-edge technology allows us to create 3D printed orthotics precisely tailored to the unique contours of your foot.

Orthotics improve how your feet function and work. As our feet are the foundation of our body correcting this (our biomechanics) will offload and reduce the stress on the area we are treating. We can not guarantee this will resolve your complaint but it should help and we can offer other treatments like laser, corticosteroid injections, ultrasound to assist. We would never offer orthotics unless we feel in our professional opinion that they have a significant chance of improving your symptoms.
